ANMOORE, W.Va. -- Anmoore Town Council members say the town's financial problems are due to a lack of checks and balances and a lack of oversight.
Council members also say that the problems will be corrected.
"This is not our first time is the bad thing, but hopefully it will be our last," council member Shawn Fragmin said.
Media outlets report that the council discussed the town's financial issues at its meeting Monday night. Council members estimate that Anmoore owes an estimated $375,000 in unpaid debts and taxes.
Council members Heather Gillespie and Anna Harvey said they called the town's debtors, including utility companies, to determine how much the town owes.
"I'm only going to move forward," Gillespie said. "I'm not going to be bogged down by all this nonsense because that's what it is is nonsense."
Mayor Eddie Hartman said that the council thought the town's finances were in order when it gave town employees supplemental pay in June.
