1 killed in house explosion in Ritchie County
PENNSBORO, W.Va. -- One person is dead following a fire and explosion at a house in Ritchie County.
Media outlets report that the fire and explosion occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. Monday.
A residence next door was damaged by flames but no one was there at the time. A third house sustained smoke damage. The family who lives there escaped without injury.
The cause of the fire and explosion hasn't been determined but state police say oxygen tanks were inside the home.
Ritchie County Emergency Services Director James White tells WTAP-TV (http://bit.ly/1a4JXYU ) that the victim was a man in his 50s or 60s. He hasn't been identified.
White says the explosion melted several electrical wires, causing power, phone service and cable outages.
