I know the superintendent and the board members are working hard trying to eliminate the achievement gap in this county.
Eliminating the achievement gap should rank number one on the list for goals in Kanawha County.
Something is terribly wrong when Kenna Elementary School is one of the top schools in the state, ranking third out of 399 grade schools in West Virginia.
Just two miles away the new Mary C. Snow West Side Elementary School is ranked 393. This is totally unacceptable.
This is where parental involvement is important. A child will perform better in school when he or she knows someone cares. We know that we have problems that need to be addressed.
These problems can be resolved when leaders in the school system, churches, community and parents come together working to help our most precious resource - our children.
