VLADIMIR Putin just saved Barry Obama. By offering to use Russia as a depository for Syria's chemical weaponry, Putin kept Obama from blundering into a war with a fifth-tier power.
Consider this Russia's gift to the United States on the 12th anniversary of 9/11.
The near war with Syria provides an insight into the mind and ego of the 44th president, whose narcissism eclipses his leadership talents.
From Obama's perspective, he is, like George Washington, the first of his kind.
Never mind that unlike General Washington, Obama had no accomplishments anywhere near exploring and surveying a vast wilderness or winning a war against the mightiest military on Earth.
As a community organizer, Obama got the plumbing fixed in a tenement.
But Obama became the first black president, won a Nobel Peace Prize and fulfilled the Democratic Party's long dream of ruining the American health system.
In his mind, with his feet on the Resolute Desk, Obama is awesome.
There is a logic to his putting himself on Washington's level; however President Washington knew the power of humility.
Keeping one's ego in check serves as a brake when headed to disaster.
But anyone who puts their feet on the Resolute Desk does not know history, and presidents who do not know history are disasters.
See Carter, Jimmy.
The HMS Resolute was a flagship of the British Navy that became icebound and abandoned in the Arctic in April 1853.
Two years later, Captain James Coddington of Groton, Conn., commanding the whaler George Henry, came upon the ghost ship some 1,200 miles away from where the crew abandoned her.
Coddington hauled her home, a prize of salvage.
Taxpayers paid to restore her and return her to England as a gift.
Later, when the ship retired, Queen Victoria had part of the ship fashioned into the desk that sits in the Oval Office, a gift from England in 1880.
