READERS gave the Daily Mail's Neediest Cases appeal $102,538.97 this year as the fund closes the books on yet another successful drive.
Every penny will go to buy the dentures, clothing, hearing aids, washers, bedding and all the other items that will help people in need all year long. The newspaper covers all the administrative costs.
Readers once again met the need of every case published from Thanksgiving to Christmas with money left over to cover hundreds of cases that there was not the space to publish.
A newspaper can only shine the light on the corners where the needs are. It is up to readers to take action. Every year since the Daily Mail began this appeal in 1961, readers have taken action and for that the staff is grateful.

ANYONE have a hankering for roasted elk? How about antelope stir fry or fried alligator. These dishes and more await diners at
Dunbar's annual critter dinner from noon to 4 p.m. on Feb. 15.
The buffet tables will include rabbit, buffalo, goat chili and many other mammals and reptiles not found at the local supermarket.
The cost of the exotic meals is a donation of five cans of food to support the Dunbar Institute Samaritan Center. Cash, too, is accepted.
Not listed is how many one must donate to be
excused from eating the critters.
