I read about the new education bill. I want a time clock so I can punch in when I come to work and punch out when I leave.
I have only taught 30-plus years. In that limited experience I have found that I must begin work in my classroom at least a week before the teachers' first assigned day in August.
Only one day of preparation for more than 40 children is not feasible for me.
I also find it necessary to be at work some days until at least 5 p.m. - sometimes 6 p.m. or later. You see, I am incapable of grading and commenting on more than 40 assignments in four different subjects in the time allotted.
Then I would also like to be able to punch in on weekends because I am also incapable of completing midterms and grade cards for 40-plus students in four subject areas in the time frame offered in this state.
At the same time, I have read articles where I - generalization here - have abused my sick leave.
I tend to sick children every day. Sometimes a child gets here and begins running a fever. The entire class has now been exposed, including me.
When was the last time our legislators were thrown up on? Do they buy tissues and hand sanitizer for their entire group?
