Suicide is a national health problem that takes an enormous toll on families, friends, co-workers, schools and the entire community.
Sadly, every minute of every day, someone attempts to take his or her own life. Someone dies by suicide at the rate of every 13.2 minutes.
In West Virginia, suicide is the second leading cause of death in the 15-24 age group.
We will no longer remain silent about the stigma of suicide and we will fight those stigmas while raising awareness within our communities.
On Sept. 10, Messages For Hope will host "World Suicide Prevention Day" at Daniel Boone Park. Sept. 10 through Sept. 15 was also proclaimed by Gov. Tomblin as Suicide Prevention Week in West Virginia.
