Raise the taxes on something, and its price will go up.
That's the problem with proposals in our capital to raise prices on American energy companies.
Higher energy prices mean that we will all pay more at the pump, more to heat and cool our homes, and more for food and other products that must be delivered to us.
I'm tired of seeing politicians target energy companies and the hundreds of thousands of good people who work for them as being the bad guys.
Energy businesses have spurred our economy, created new jobs and discovered new energy sources right here in this country. In fact, we are coming closer than anytime in decades to ending our heavy reliance on foreign energy.
But the government wants to disadvantage American energy companies by doubling their taxes on foreign earnings. Other countries don't do that to their energy companies. And another proposal would take away the tax credit that energy companies get for creating American jobs. But we need those jobs.
We need to celebrate economic successes, and that includes the tens of thousands of energy companies - both large and small - that keep this country going. Stop adding more taxes that just hit us in the pocketbook.
