Your Vents: Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008
- Wake up, America. The pharmaceutical companies are the ones giving the charts to the doctors. If your cholesterol is high on the chart, the more pills you have to take. The heavier they say you are, the more diet pills you need to take. Ignore them.
- I hope that all the bars violating the smoking ban in Kanawha County get a hefty fine. The health department needs to put out all of the inspectors and lay a heavy fine on all of them. Why? Because it is against the law.
- Concerning the difference between those killed in a war and those aborted: Those killed in a war at least have a chance in life. Those aborted are simply taken out like trash.
- Why on earth does Goodwill close at 5 or 6 p.m.? The workingman doesn't have a chance go in there and buy something cheap, but all the welfare people do.
- The venter says the main difference between liberals and conservatives is that liberals actually think and reason and conservatives just repeat what they hear. Actually I thought it was the other way around. In fact, I know it is.
- Who is responsible for cutting the weeds on the corner of Virginia Street and Tennessee Avenue? The weeds are about five feet tall.
- Who is secretary of state candidate Charles Minimah going to support for president of the United States? Obama or McCain?
- Your editorial just did not go far enough regarding the vandals at J.E. Robins Elementary. When juveniles do damage such as these kids did, put them to work under adult supervision and make them clean up the mess. Taxpayers should not be responsible.
- Who wants to waste their money to make a trip to Denver to watch taxman Barack Hussein Obama? He will not beat John McCain.
- Why would Obama go on O'Reilly and Hannity's show or on Fox TV? They do not let a Democrat talk on their show. They always cut them off.
- To the venter who referred to the comparison between the attack on Iraq and Russia's attack on Georgia: I believe he's confused. Iraq's dictator was not really a terrorist. Bush is the reason we're in Iraq, not Saddam Hussein.
- What good it is to have a curfew if the police do not patrol the city after curfew?
- Gas prices in Toledo, Ohio are $3.43 to $3.48. Why are our gas prices so high?
- I am one of the venters complaining about Judge King's sentence of John Merrifield. Would I lay my life down for my own kid? Sure I would, but not if he was a murderer. The only one who laid his life down was Logan Goodall and that poor little boy is dead. Merrifield should have been sent to prison for covering this up.
- Presidential candidate Barack Obama may very well be the anti-Christ.
- Hooray to the parents who turned their kids in for committing acts of vandalism. This is amazing. These parents need to be rewarded. If the children get on the right path, it will be due to these parents. Thank you for being stand-up parents.
- Good luck to Marshall football, because if Coach Mark Snyder says the punt is the most important play in football you guys are in major trouble. I really feel bad for you. Hopefully, in the next couple of years, you guys will get a coach that knows what he's doing.
- Good for the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department. Now 75 percent of us who don't smoke can go into restaurants and lounges and enjoy a meal and a few drinks without having to smell smoke.
- After reading the Vent Line I have decided our new state motto should become: "Mountaineers always whine."
- To all the people complaining about the smoking ban: If you don't like it you don't have to go into the bars where there is smoke.
- I see where Kanawha-Charleston health board president Brenda Isaac called bar owners, "A rebel group." Aren't those the same words the British said about George Washington and Thomas Jefferson?
- To the hypersensitive hunters that can't take criticism: Just because something is native to your heritage or culture doesn't make it any less wrong. Slavery was once a part of our culture too.
- Why can't the bar owners decide for themselves what they want to do in their own bars and let the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department stay out of it? I'm not a smoker but I go to bars and people do smoke in there and the people should have a right to smoke in there. There are a lot worse things in this county that the health department should worry about than smoking in bars.
- I noticed there is a new yard-sign policy in the East End of Charleston and that many houses are allowed to have political campaign signs, primarily Obama's, all over the neighborhood. Isn't there a law about that? They've been up all summer and no one has done anything about it.
- When are these Democrats going to learn that if you don't get the fuel, you don't get the energy, and then you're going to have to do without?
- To the idiot that said we need to review one of the books about President Bush by Random House: There needs to be lots of them printed because he's the worst president we're ever had. He's a disgrace to the world.
