Your vents for Tuesday, April 2

  • Cecil Roberts is the best president of the UMWA since John L. Lewis. I'm old enough to know that as a fact.

  • If you keep hitting the same potholes on 40th Street in Nitro, you must be an idiot. If I drive on a road, I remember the locations of the potholes.
  • The State Department has been sending money to the Palestinians for quite a while now. They know full well the Palestinians want to wipe Israel off of the map and Americans need our own money. We are in dire straits. What is wrong with this picture?
  • I have two pot-bellied pigs named Delbert and Elbert. They are such good companions. How can anyone enjoy a bacon sandwich?
  • Why don't the papers and media around Charleston publish the good things Clinton Giles does at Capital High School?
  • It is very upsetting that a disabled woman is beat up in South Charleston and the authorities are on the criminal's side.
  • The people in Nitro put their trash cans out on Sunday night and it sits there till Wednesday. And the trash cans sit there for another day after the trash man comes.
  • Why didn't Arch Coal and Peabody live up to their promises? Now the miners will not get their pensions. They just set them up to fail. To heck with the workers who worked to get that pension.
  • The Boulevard is the best thing about Charleston. Don't tear it up that only 10 to 20 people might use it. People who ride bikes want more than a two-mile path. Please don't do this.
  • W.Va. legislators need to require educators to be drug tested.
  • Americans want the health care that Congress gets.
  • If welfare people would keep staple foods on their home shelves and cook at home, their food stamps would go so much farther.
  • Would someone with the city of St. Albans please come to Claremont Avenue and remove the pair of tennis shoes hanging from an electric line. That is a symbol of an area noted for drugs. We are law-abiding citizens.
  • I read about the water system wanting us to check for leaks. Why do that? There are reported leaks and they take two months to get them fixed, so why do they put that in the paper?
  • We are reaping what we have sown, so enjoy.
  • People who listen to Fox News believe in fairy tales such as: the government is taking all your guns; Republicans really don't like millionaires; Republicans really care about creating jobs; and Republicans are real people.
  • You have to show identification to get on a plane, to open a checking account, drive and many things. We know why Natalie Tennant doesn't like ID for voting.
  • All area pawnshops should be closely monitored for items stolen from homes.
  • The school board is absolutely right in not wanting to give money to the library. In the next 10 years there will be so few people using libraries that it will be ludicrous to keep them open.
  • Does anyone realize that the Obamas spend over $1.4 million of our tax money on their extravagant lifestyle? We cannot afford it.
  • Has there ever been a study of domestic violence victims who get by with murdering their abusers when the abuser isn't abusing at the time?
  • Once again, corporations are not people. Corporations are unions of capitalists focused on maximizing profits for their stockholders. They have no allegiance; they have no conscience and have no feelings. They are simply three sheets of paper and a filing cabinet.
  • I think these students should not receive free breakfast and lunch. Where is the responsibility of their parents? When my children were small, I paid for their food.  Taxes are high enough.
  • I read in the paper those congressmen are going to get a raise this week. I think they should forestall any raises whatsoever until they can get their act together with a balanced budget.
  • First the Boy Scouts want to keep out gays.  Now they want to keep out fat kids. If they want to promote fitness,  shouldn't they run a camp to get those fat kids in shape?
  • The mainstream media need to stop putting up pictures of monsters who have committed crimes the past year. The victims' families are still grieving Sandy Hook. If you are doing a story, stop putting pictures up.
  • I'd like to know why the through lane was taken out of Kanawha Boulevard where Florida Street intersects. I'm sure that no more than 10 people a year cross the Boulevard at that point.  Please put it back in.
  • Overbrook Elementary, Point Harmony Elementary, Andrews Heights Elementary and now Mary C. Snow Elementary; when the Kanawha Board of Education consolidated into those schools, it assured the public that there would be plenty of room to close down neighboring schools and send students to these schools. Well, now there is overcrowding.
  • Please do not put $1 tax on cigarette packs. The lung doctors need your money.
  • If you can't think of a good reason to keep Saturday postal service, you are typical of a selfish and greedy person who is thinking of no one but himself.
  • Satan is destroying this country right before our very eyes, and people like Hillary Clinton call it "evolving."
  • Why are we giving tax credits for buying electric cars? We should be giving tax credits for cars that are made from parts made in WV.
  • I'm sick and tired of hearing they are doing things for the people. They aren't doing it for the people; they are doing it for the government.
  • The safety of our children and of all human beings is much more important than the asserted rights of the NRA and gun lovers. Yes, I have two guns and am happy to have them. I respect human life more than my right to have a gun.
  • It is a shame that our Legislature has nothing more important to do than to name the state food. Our state food is called fast food and that is why our state is so obese.
  • Bob Huggins wants to look backwards at previous WVU teams and coaches to prove what a great job he has done. Also, ask what previous salaries were compared to his. Isn't he the one who talks about driving a truck without a rearview mirror?  How convenient.
  • Why are elementary school girls allowed to take off three and four days for cheerleading competitions and are excused even though these aren't school-sanctioned activities? It isn't fair to the other children, and the board should look into this.
