Your vents, Friday, Sept. 13

  • Don't punish everyone to finance highway maintenance. There is no enforcement of out-of-state registration laws. The governor should insist that all police enforce those laws.

  • I don't care about weather in Hurricane or Culloden. I live in St. Albans. The Weather Channel is no longer useful for me.
  • Seeing the devastation of Iraq, Egypt and Libya, perhaps Fox News, as all Americans, doesn't want to see or report on another crisis.
  • The adoption fee for a kitten covers a round of shots and spaying/neutering. Rates are currently reduced. If the shelter gave them away as you requested, you'd still have to pay more than the current fee just to get them fixed. But if you're worried about a measly $30-$40 fee, you probably wouldn't be the type to get them medical care anyway.
  • Vehicles are made today with a lot of plastic body parts to increase gas mileage. Then we have ethanol added to our fuel to reduce the gas mileage. Does this make any sense to you?
  • Why do the police have to announce their locations when they check for speeding and criminal activity? It is like giving someone a key to your house and telling them exactly when you will not be at home. Duh!
  • True or false? Stolen property is recoverable under the law, and there is no time limit in charging someone with fraud.
  • Anybody with an IQ over 80 knows the president has done nothing for which to be impeached. Even the "half-truthers" at Fox know it.
  • It makes little difference where a politician is from or where they work. Birds of the same feather flock together, whether they are from Mingo County or Washington, D.C.
  • Why doesn't Danny Jones just close the Boulevard and turn it into a recreation area? That is what he wants.
  • I wonder if these Republicans feel bad about getting a Social Security check and Medicare paying their doctor and hospital bills when their party has been fighting these government programs for years.
  • Three cheers for a no-kill animal shelter in Kanawha County!
  • There is a tow truck controversy in Huntington. There aren't enough cars to be towed. There are too many tow trucks. Something needs to be done to get rid of some of them.
  • All of the flooding that occurs on Cross Lanes Drive clear down to 40th Street is caused by the United Methodist Church on Frontier Drive. It all starts right there. I sure wish the Corps of Engineers would look into that.
  • Can you believe John McCain was playing video poker while the rest of the committee was debating yet another war? He said he was bored. Maybe Arizona voters should put him out to pasture.
  • The only way to stop drivers from using their cellphone is to take their license away for six months. That would stop them.
  • The Division of Highways diverts runoff water from Sissonville Road directly into ditches at the entrance to Leonard Heights. During heavy storms, the gravel is completely emptied from the sides of our entrance road. Can't they re-divert the water into the nearby creek? Also, replace the gravel with solid concrete. Our entrance road is going to collapse.
  • I don't care enough to buckle myself in the car. Why would I tie my dog down? What happens in my car is my business if I don't bother anyone else. Whether it is seat belts, dogs or phones or whatever, pull me over and let's talk about it.
  • This Syrian air strike will come back to haunt us in a big way.
  • It is a disgrace that something more isn't done to vandals. They need to put these kids in a boot camp. Punish them that way.
  • Arm the rebels and take the leaders out with drones. Don't send bombers. That would scare the leaders, save our personnel and save money.
  • Mr. Molgaard, it is a terrible mistake to do anything more to our Boulevard. Please don't do that. You will ruin it and cause car wrecks.
  • Humana went from being an insurance company with a contract with Medicare to a run-your-life company. They know everything you do and everything you are supposed to do.
  • Do you not want to see "The Butler" because Jane Fonda is in it? Or is it because her character, in a very small role, invited a black man to dinner in the White House?
  • Capital High School is the only school in Kanawha County that doesn't have its own football field. Money from the oil and gas well on Capital High School property could provide a football field.
  • Bill Stewart was a real West Virginian who cared about this state and the players. He did a great job, but he wasn't "classy" enough or from the right side of the tracks. They threw a great man, and a great coach, under the bus.
  • As a taxpayer, I object to using our hard-earned money for the graffiti stuff in Charleston on buildings and piers and bike paths. Politicians will ruin anything. Don't you want to save our tax money from these frivolous things?
  • Someone said they reviewed all of the news on television and decided Fox was the best because everything they "predicted" about Obama's administration came true. Predictions? News? Since when is reporting news supposed to include being a soothsayer and a fortune-teller? Or are they behind some of the country's biggest dilemmas?
  • Why is the Charleston Farmers Market not marked on the interstate at exit 100?
  • I'm so proud of the principal, teachers and kids at Sissonville. They've proved not only for themselves but to every other kid in the county that you can if you are willing to make the effort and do the work.
  • Is there any way to send Morrisey packing? All he does is bully everyone regardless of what the situation is. He is nothing but bad for West Virginia.
  • They patched only a small section of 40th Street in Nitro. They need to repave the whole road.
  • Kudos to Steve Knighton for his 35 years of exemplary education as principal at Piedmont Elementary. The school system should take a page out of his book regarding year-round schools. That has worked out perfectly.
  • WVU coaches talk about how tough the Big 12 is. WVU players have proven they can play against anyone. Maybe we just need to look at the coaches.
