CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Elon University men's basketball team has added another George Washington High School point guard to its arsenal.
Patriots senior Luke Eddy gave a verbal commitment on Thursday to play his college basketball for the Phoenix.
The 2011-12 Kanawha Valley Player of the Year will play at the same school that featured former GW All-State guard Chris Long.
"That's the school I visited the most and Chris Long went there," Eddy said. "That was a big influence on me.
"Elon runs a lot of pick and rolls. It also gave Chris a chance to play overseas. Elon kind of took him to that level."
Long played four years at Elon (2007-11), where he scored 1,237 career points and added 528 assists. Long is playing professionally in Europe for Siarka Jezioro (Poland).
Eddy received offers from several Division II schools and from Division I Stetson University in DeLand, Fla.
However, he also was sold on what Elon had to offer outside of basketball.
"It was voted the seventh prettiest campus in America and voted the best-run college in America (by the Princeton Review)," Eddy said. "They showed a lot of interest in me. The early signing period is coming up and I felt comfortable enough with the coaches and players they already have.
