Mountaineer Gameday: How well do you know the Big 12 Conference?

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Oklahoma game this weekend is one that West Virginia football fans have been looking forward to for quite some time.

These two teams were picked first and second in the Big 12 Conference preseason poll and it was thought that this game might help decide the Big 12 title.

That is no longer the case, but it is still a big day in the Mountain State when the Sooners come to town. With that in mind, it is time for fans in our state to learn more about their new league. Here is some quick Big 12 trivia.

Former Oklahoma running back, Billy Sims won the Heisman Trophy in 1978. Name the hometown of Billy Sims.    

Answer - Hooks, Texas.

In the opening game of 1982, West Virginia shocked the Sooners in Norman in the first game of the year. What Mountaineer quarterback led that victory?  

Answer - Jeff Hostetler.  

The final score of that 1982 game was 41-27. Name the former Mountaineer running back who scored the final touchdown.

Answer - Curlin Beck.

One of the key players on that final score was a block thrown by former Mountaineer Cam Zopp, who was an in-state recruit. Where did Zopp play his high school football?  

Answer - Buckhannon-Upshur.  

What former Oklahoma running back went on to stardom in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles and helped lead them to a win over Vince Lombardi and the Green Bay Packers in the 1960 NFL title game?

Answer - Tommy McDonald.
