Mountain State Fugitive Task Force member Chad Simpson said murder charges are being dropped against Vernon Dunnom, the West Liberty football player who was charged with being a fugitive from justice in West Virginia, WTRF reported on its website.
Dunnom was facing charges for first degree homicide, attempted murder and two counts of robbery from a Nov. 17 incidenct in Miami, Dade.
A Northern Regional Jail official said they are waiting to get word from the court system before Dunnom is released .
Dunnom was facing an extradition hearing today in Ohio County Circuit Court.
West Liberty University President Robin Capehart said the University had evidence the student was in fact on campus during the time of the crime.
Capehart said through the school's dorm card system, they found Dunnom swiped in and out of his dorm several times when he was alleged to have been in Florida. They also found witnesses that said Dunnom was with them and ate dinner with them.
