Former Scott star Makenzie White transferring to Fairmont State
The Makenzie White sweepstakes has a winner.
Last season' West Virginia girls basketball high school player of the year announced on Dec. 20 that she received her release from the West Virginia University women's basketball program and was leaving the school.
After a busy 10 days of fielding calls from dozens of schools and visiting several, White has decided to transfer to Fairmont State University of the West Virginia Conference.
"Makenzie really clicked with the coach there and loved her visit," said her mother, Tara Jones.
The ex-Scott star will team with former Summers County rivals Hanna and Hallie Gunnoe. The twins began their collegiate careers at High Point University last year before transferring to Fairmont this past fall.
White scored more than 2,000 points in her prep career and led Scott to an 84-22 record, including three Class AA runner-up finishes in the State Tournament with the first two of those coming against Summers County and the Gunnoes.
The 5-foot-9 White had played 15 minutes in five games for WVU, scoring two points.
She will not be eligible to play the rest of this school year and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Fairmont State is 5-3 overall and 3-1 in West Virginia Conference play.
