Girls basketball: St. Albans girls claim their fifth straight win
ST. ALBANS, W.Va. - St. Albans opened each half in a big way on the way to its third straight win, a 53-50 home victory over Winfield in girls high school basketball Tuesday.
The Red Dragons (8-7) outscored the visiting Generals 15-9 in the first quarter and 16-9 in the second, then held off a late Winfield rally.
St. Albans' leading scorer on the season, Breanna Propst, had another solid game for the Red Dragons with game highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Torri Wilson and Kaitlyn Propst each had 12 points for the Red Dragons. Haeley Moore led Winfield (8-8) with 15 points and Morgan Eggleton added 11 points.

George Washington 65, Parkersburg 61 - The Patriots (11-4) won their fifth straight game with the Senior Night home win.
Rachel Ward led GW with 21 points, while Kelli Jo Harrison added 12.
For the Big Reds (10-8), Emory Ward netted 18 points, followed by Kennedy Walker with 14 and Megan Morrison with 13.
Sissonville 60, Wayne 34 - The Indians (12-5) led by 14 at halftime and pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Pioneers 24-3, to earn the road win.
Madison Jones made her first six field goal attempts on her way to a game-high 21 points while Brooke Reed recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Buffalo 69, Sherman 46 - The Bison (10-4) jumped to a 22-7 first quarter lead and never looked back in cruising to the road win.
Chelsea Parkins led Buffalo with 22 points, while Olivia Dunn added 17 and Tiffani Bailey 13.
For Sherman (6-10), Jordan Lewis led the way with 12 points, followed by Sarah Massey with 10.
Elk Valley Christian 84, Ohio Valley Christian 41 - Elk Valley (9-7) used a 25-6 third quarter scoring advantage to pull away for the home win.
Chelsea Burdette led Elk Valley with 29 points, while Hannah Williams contributed 20 points. Katie Burdette and Anna Oxley added 11 points apiece.
