Prep basketball: Winfield rallies against Nitro
Winfield started slowly but rallied in the final three quarters to pull out a 67-60 home win over Nitro in boys high school basketball play Wednesday.
The Generals (8-7) trailed by seven after the first quarter, but outscored the Wildcats (7-8) in each of the final three quarters.
Zach Fisher led Winfield with 22 points and five assists, while Chris Turner added 14 points and 12 rebounds.
John Bellomy also had 14 points for Winfield.
For Nitro (7-8), Angelo Sirianni netted 19 points, followed by Trevon Taylor with 11 and Hunter Ferrari with 10.
Riverside 59, Parkersburg 52 - The Warriors (7-10) snapped a three-game skid with the home win.
Senior Marcus Reed led Riverside with 16 points, while Tyus Wood added 11 points. Nick Light pulled down 11 boards for the Warriors.
For Parkersburg (5-11), Trevor Britton led all scorers with 19 points, followed by Ben Umpleby's 13.
Ripley 65, Capital 62 -Casey Smith blistered the nets for 25 points in leading the Vikings (6-10) on the road.
Jakob Harrison contributed 17 points for Ripley, while Jacob Haynes and Chuck Sleboda had 10 points apiece.
For Capital (7-11), Austin Coleman scored 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Brad Grose had 21 points and seven boards.
In girls action:
Charleston Catholic 54, Wahama 31 - Samantha Fletcher scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Irish (7-10) on the road.
Anna Whelan added 12 points for Catholic.
For Wahama (2-18), Sierra Carmichael scored 14 points.
