WVU football: Shady Spring's Syvertson headed to Morgantown
Shady Spring High School senior Houstin Syvertson will accepted an offer to join the West Virginia football program as a preferred walk-on, Syvertson announced Thursday via Twitter.
"I have officially committed to WVU," read Syvertson's tweet, published a little after 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Syvertson (6-foot-2, 215 pounds) was a first team Class AAA punter in 2012, and had been a sought-after specialist after a season in which he averaged 42 yards per attempt in 2012, a number that was slightly down from his average of 42.9 yards per punt in 2011. Rutgers and FCS Robert Morris had been in the hunt for Syvertson in the latter stages of his recruitment, according to 247sports.com. He was scheduled to visit Robert Morris this weekend before he announced his decision.
