Prep basketball: Winfield keeps hot hand in win over SA
WINFIELD, W.Va. - Winfield shooters had a hot hand from start to finish in a 72-56 home win over St. Albans in boys high school basketball play Tuesday night.
The Generals (11-8) connected on 18-of-27 2-point field goal attempts, while connecting on 10-of-18 from 3-point range.
Chris Turner led Winfield with 21 points, while John Bellomy added 16 points and Zach Fisher 13.
For St. Albans, Nathan McNeil scored 21 points, followed by Tanner Aliff and Taylor Clark with 11 points apiece.
Bluefield 94, Scott 67 - Class AA top-ranked rolled at home behind Anthony Eades' 21 points.
Michael Yost added 16 points for the Beavers (16-2), followed by Lykel Collier with 13 and D.J. Edwards with 12.
For Scott (11-8), Matt Dolan netted a game-high 25 points, while Eric May contributed 17 and Anthony Sigmon 12.
Tolsia 60, Sissonville 56 - Terry Davis and Austin Brewer scored 16 points apiece to lead the Rebels (13-6) on the road.
Davis helped seal the win by connecting on 4-of-4 free throw attempts in the game's final minutes.
Brandon Clark added 13 points for Tolsia.
For Sissonville (7-12), Zach Null led the way with 18 points, followed by Ryan Kelley with 12 and Trent Stowers with 11.
In girls games:
Buffalo 58, Sherman 51 - Freshman Michaela Lewis scored 20 points and grabbed 13 points to lead Buffalo to a win over visiting Sherman.
Tiffani Bailey added 16 points for the Bison (16-4).
For Sherman, Jordan Lewis netted 14 points, while Sarah Massey added 10.
Scott 48, Nicholas County 41 - The Skyhawks rallied in the fourth quarter for the tough home win.
Julie Conway paced Scott (12-8) with 14 points, while Jaimee Dotson chipped in with 11.
For Nicholas County (16-3), Mykenzie Martin scored 14 points, followed by Lauren Young with 11.
Cabell Midland 63, Hurricane 45 - The Knights (15-6) blew open a close game with a 20-4 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.
Sierra Jordan led Midland with 18 points, while Emily Pitkin and Alex Ellis added 14 apiece.
For Hurricane (5-15), Abby Watson led the way with 23 points.
Herbert Hoover 47, Poca 42 - The Huskies improved to 11-9 with the home win.
Bailey Aab led Hoover with 13 points, while Jordan Marshall chipped in with 10.
For Poca, Harley Hutchins netted 12 points, followed by Paula Ord's 11.
St. Albans 57, Lincoln County 30 - Sophomore Breanna Propst scored 26 points and pulled down 18 rebounds to lead the Red Dragons (10-10) on the road.
Propst connected on 18-of-22 free throw attempts, while the team connected on 33-of-46 from the line.
For Lincoln County, Kerbi Slone scored eight points.
