Prep softball, baseball roundup: Funk has three RBI, Generals rout Big Reds

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Parkersburg softball team took a 2-0 lead to start the game, but Winfield bounced right back with two of runs of its own in the bottom of the first inning and never let up in picking up a 12-3 home win on Wednesday night.

The Generals (3-2) added four in the second, five in the third and one more in the fourth to take the five-inning decision.

Winfield pitcher Abbie Short (2-2) received plenty of support as Ally Funk knocked in three runs on three hits, Maddie Wall drove in three more with a pair of well-timed singles and Natalie Miskofsky knocked in two more.

In other softball action:

Scott 7, Sherman 0 - Jennifer Miller struck out seven, allowed just four hits in picking up the win for the Skyhawks (1-1).

Allison Johnson paced the attack with four hits, including a home run, while knocking in four runs.

Riverside 10, Princeton 0 - Kaylee Wolfe tossed a four-inning one-hitter and received plenty of support.

Felicia Burton fell a home run short of hitting for the cycle and Wolfe drove in a pair of runs to help herself for the Warriors (3-2).

In baseball action:

George Washington 9, Valley 2 - A quartet of Patriots pitchers gave up seven hits, but only allowed the visiting Greyhounds to cross home plate twice.

Meanwhile, George Washington (2-0) hitters made much better use of their eight hits. Jeff Wong had four RBI, with a double and two singles, while Clayton Anderson knocked in two with a pair of singles.

Charleston Catholic 12, Man 2 - Connor Golden and Andy Hoyer combined to limit the visiting Hillbillies to two hits as the Irish (1-1) picked up the win.

Hoyer added a pair of singles and Golden a triple to help Catholic.

St. Albans 14, Riverside 4 - The Red Dragons (1-2) pounded out 11 hits and were aided by six Warriors errors in cruising at home.

Phoenix Shrewsbury led the Red Dragons with three hits, while Bobby Grishaber added a double and three RBI. Peter Theodos contributed two hits and two RBI for St. Albans.

For Riverside (2-1), Brady Wilkinson had two hits, including a double, while Aaron Halstead had a double.
