"She was having trouble, I think, early on," Moore said. "She didn't have a lot on her breaking ball, so she was relying a lot on her fastball and changeup today."
While she might not have had her best stuff, Parkins was able to keep Scott's bats relatively silent. The Skyhawks didn't have a hit until the fifth, when Sara Browning hit a line drive that bounced off Parkins' glove then Burdette's glove at shortstop for an infield single.
Scott never put more than one runner on base at the same time throughout the game.
"Every time we play Buffalo, it's a good game. They've got a great program, they're well coached, and they got a hit when they needed it," Scott Coach D.A. Harless said.
The game was a late addition to the teams' schedules, as both found themselves with an open date amid this week's cold weather that has forced numerous postponements throughout the Kanawha Valley.
"We called them up and they said they'd come up to play," Moore said. "Anytime I call (Harless) up, he's always ready to play."
Hurricane 9, George Washington 0 - Courtney Rogers fired a four-hit shutout and had three hits, including a homer, double and two RBI in leading the Redskins (6-0) at home.
Linzie Reynolds had three hits, including a homer and two doubles for Hurricane, while Madison Casto and Addie Fullen added two hits apiece.
For GW, Rachel Ward was 2-for-3.
