Area roundup: Hurricane downs Washington at Myrtle Beach

Tate Brock was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI as the Redskins rolled to a 13-2 win over Washington in a meeting between two West Virginia schools at the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Tuesday.

Connor Adams struck out seven to pick up his third win of the season for Hurricane (8-1). Adams also had a double and three RBI, while Riley Metz was 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBI. Zach Pate was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Brandon Pauley had a two-run double.

Also at the Mingo Bay Classic:

Charleston Catholic 12, Beekmantown, N.Y. 5 - Nelson McKown and Drew Cable knocked in three runs apiece to lead the Irish (6-1).

Adam Goldfarb, Austin Bradish and Brandon Rabidon added two hits apiece for Catholic, while Connor Golden improved to 2-0 on the mound.

Beekmantown dropped to 0-1.

South Charleston 2, Jamestown, N.Y. 1 - Senior Jerod Jobst allowed just one run over six innings of work to lead the Black Eagles (4-3).

Jonathan Pauley tossed a scoreless seventh inning to notch the save.

Austin Santrock collected SC's only hit.

For Jamestown, Adam Westley took the loss allowing single runs in the second and sixth innings.

St. Albans 5, Waccamaw, S.C. 2 - The Red Dragons (4-3) plated five runs in the third inning and held on for the win.

Phoenix Shrewsbury had two doubles for St. Albans (4-3), which dropped Waccamaw to 9-3.

In area games:

Sissonville 16, Mingo Central 4 - The Indians (5-5) pounded out 20 hits en route to the five-inning road win over the Miners (1-7).

Jacob Fisher and Houston Hill had four hits apiece for Sissonville (5-5), while Zach Null and Josh Landis added three hits each. Landis added four RBI for the Indians.

Herbert Hoover 8, Scott 0 - Austin Thomas had three hits, including a double, homer and three RBI to lead the Huskies (8-0) at home.

Corey Bird, Ryan Shamblin and Cody Bowen added two hits apiece for Hoover, including a homer and three RBI by Bowen.

Bird (1-0) also picked up the win, striking out 12 in six innings.

Nitro 1, Parkersburg 0 - Kip Brewer tossed a three-hit shutout to lead the Wildcats (4-2) at home.

Nitro plated the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Big Reds (3-5) throwing error after an attempted sacrifice bunt.

In prep softball:

Scott 5, Myrtle Beach, S.C. 1 - Jennifer Miller recorded 13 strikeouts in leading Scott to a 5-1 win in the Grand Strand Classic at Myrtle Beach.

Ally Brown was 2-for-4 for the Skyhawks (5-3), while Cassidy Allen had a run-scoring single.

Ashland, Ky. 9, Riverside 4 - Ashland erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning to claim a come-from-behind win at Myrtle Beach.

Megan Hensley led Ashland with two hits and three RBI, while McKenzie Vanover added a double.

For Riverside (8-6), Sara Winter had two doubles, a triple and two RBI.

Herbert Hoover 10, Poca 1- Allison Rager fired a one-hitter and struck out 11 in leading the Huskies (4-1).

For Hoover, Rager also had two hits, while Mikayla Craze had four. Damia Mogielski added three.

Poca dropped to 2-4.

Point Pleasant 6, Winfield 4 - The Big Blacks trailed 2-0 after three innings but plated five runs in the fourth to pull out the home win.
