Prep softball: Haynes, Caudill lead St. Albans past GW

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Ali Haynes' pitching and Mariah Caudill's hitting helped lead St. Albans (16-1) to a 6-2 and 13-3 doubleheader sweep at George Washington in high school softball action Monday.

Haynes struck out nine in the first game, while Caudill smacked a two-run homer. Whitney Jones added a pair of hits for the Red Dragons.

In the second game, the Red Dragons plated 10 runs in the third inning to help run Haynes' record to 16-1.

Caudill had two more hits and four RBI, highlighted by a three-run homer, while Haili McCown had three hits, with two doubles. Haynes and Whitney Jones added two hits apiece for St. Albans.

Scott 10-14, Mingo Central 0-0 - The Skyhawks (9-4) used solid pitching in registering a pair of no-hit, three-inning wins over the Miners (0-12).

Sophomore Ally Brown (2-4) earned the win in the first game with three innings of perfect pitching. Brown struck out seven.

Senior Jennifer Miller won the second game, striking out six en route to her seventh win with no losses.

Brown also had a big day at the plate with three hits and four RBI, while Allyson Johnson finished the day with two hits and three RBI.

South Charleston 6-2, Winfield 2-10 - Allie Burdette struck out 11 to lead the Black Eagles to the win in the first game.

Meredith Cain knocked in a pair of runs for SC (6-5).

In the second game, the Generals (8-8) pounded out 10 hits to earn the split.

Kenna Markham had three RBI for Winfield, while Ally Funk and Natalie Miskofsky and Ali Chambers had two hits apiece.

Man 11, Charleston Catholic 1 - The Hillbillies (6-1) was led by Summer Sword and Tabitha Ferguson who had two hits each.

For Catholic (6-4), Ally Persily smacked a double.

Buffalo 11, Wahama 2 - The Bison (9-2) pounded out 18 hits en route to the road win.

Chelsey Parkins struck out 11 for Buffalo and scattered five hits over seven innings.

Ali Burdette and Olivia Dunn had three hits apiece for the Bison, while Parkins, Noell Dingess, Paige England and Jordan Bailey each had two hits.

Kelsey Billups and Darian Weaver notched two hits apiece for the White Falcons.

Hurricane 13-11, Nitro 0-0 - The Redskins (13-2) pounded out 24 hits in the double-header road sweep.

Courtney Rogers picked up the pitching win in the first game, while collecting two hits, including a homer.

In the second game, Linzie Reynolds and Maddie Hebb each smacked homers for Hurricane, while Rogers, Addie Fullen and Emily Davis had two hits apiece.
