Prep baseball roundup: Bellomy helps Winfield rally for 8-7 home victory over Poca

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- John Bellomy hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Winfield a hard-fought 8-7 victory over Poca in high school baseball action Wednesday.

The Generals (9-10), who trailed 6-0 in the third inning, plated three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game.

Bellomy and David Sneeringer had two RBI each for Winfield.

David Taylor had the big bat for Poca, driving in three runs.

Huntington 7, George Washington 2 - The Highlanders were tied in the fourth inning, but scored the last five runs to earn the home win.

Joey Mundy had a big night for Huntington with three hits and three RBI.

Jeff Wong was 2-for-3 with home run for GW (12-7).

In softball action:

Ravenswood 3, Sissonville 2 - The visiting Red Devils took advantage of miscues by the Indian to score twice in the top of the seventh to pick up the win.

Isaac Crow scattered three hits in picking up the win, while Thomas Sturm and Logan Jarrett each drove in a run for Ravenswood.

Poca 7, Clay County 6 - The Dots (5-10) erupted for six runs in the third inning and then held off a late rally by the Panthers.

Tori Ward went the distance, striking out 10. She also homered and drove in three runs. Catcher Haley Wagner added three hits including a pair of doubles.

Victoria Dorsey paced Clay County (5-12), driving in two runs with a single and double.

George Washington 10-12, Princeton 0-3 - The Patriots (8-10) swept a doubleheader from the visiting Tigers.

Bailey Rable had three doubles, a triple and a home run, while Ali Ferrell and Taylor Casto held the Tigers to seven hits.

Riverside 4, Parkersburg 0 - Kaylee Wolfe and Sara Winter both combined to pitch the shutout in leading the Warriors to the home victory.

Winter and Destini Diegert combined to do the most damage at the plate for Riverside (11-12) with two hits and two RBI each.

Megan Lanham had three of the seven hits for Parkersburg.
