Prep baseball roundup: Bowen 7th-inning homer lifts Valley over Irish
Freshman Druw Bowen hit a three-run homer over center field with two outs in the bottom of the seventh at Smithers on Thursday night to lift Valley to a wild 11-8 victory over Class A counterpart Charleston Catholic.
The Greyhounds (13-5) trailed by two runs entering the home half of the seventh when senior Arik McGinnis tripled to cut the lead to one.
A Joe Eckert two-out single tied the game at 8 before Cody Winter walked on a full count pitch.
On the next pitch from Catholic relief pitcher Vince Stricker, Bowen homered to end the game.
Bowen also improved his record to 5-0, going the distance despite surrendering six earned runs.
Leading the way for the Catholic offense was Andy Hoyer, who doubled and homered, finishing with three RBI.
The Irish (12-7) visit George Washington for a 6 p.m. game today before traveling to Logan to face the Wildcats in a 4 p.m. game on Saturday.

Levi Jordan suffered the loss for the Bison, but hit a double at the plate, while Nick Gunter had a double and three RBI and Bradley Harris doubled.
