Prep softball roundup: Burdette sharp as Buffalo blanks Sherman

Ali Burdette tossed a two-hit shutout to lead Buffalo to a 3-0 win over Sherman in a battle of ranked softball teams Tuesday night.

Burdette struck out eight for the Class A No. 2 Bison (20-4), while adding two hits, including a double and RBI. Chelsey Parkins also doubled for Buffalo.

 Sixth-ranked Sherman (18-6) was limited to just two singles.

Riverside 3-2, Nitro 3-2 - A Destiny Diegert groundball scored Sara Winter with nobody out in the bottom of the eighth inning to help the Warriors (17-12) complete a doubleheader sweep of the host Wildcats (9-13).

In the first game, Felicia Burton singled home the game-winning run in the fifth to lift Riverside.

Winfield 10, George Washington 8 - The Generals committed five errors, but still held on for the home win in the Mountain State Athletic Conference seventh-place game.

Kenna Markham led Winfield (11-13) with four hits and three RBI, while Katie Legg had two hits and three RBI. Ali Chambers also had two hits for the Generals, while knocking in a pair of runs.

For George Washington, Rachel Ward had three hits, while Ali Ferrell and Beth Murray had two hits apiece.

Charleston Catholic 13-16, Cross Lanes Christian 0-0 - The Irish (14-9) pounded out a combined 29 hits in cruising to the doubleheader sweep.

Talia Corbett struck out eight in a three-inning no-hitter for the Irish in the first game, while adding two hits and four RBI. Ally Persily and Brianna Ross had two hits apiece for the Irish, with Persily knocking in three runs.

The hits continued in the second game as Darian Vines and Ross finished with four hits apiece. Vines had three RBI, while Ross plated two runs. Kendall Carson had three hits and Persily three RBI for Catholic.

Rachel Mullins contributed a pair of hits and three RBI.

Cross Lanes Christian (9-10) managed just three hits on the evening.
