Prep softball roundup: Scott scores on unearned run to top Chapmanville
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The fourth-ranked Scott softball team scored an unearned run in the fifth inning to claim a 1-0 win over Chapmanville in Class AA Region 4, Section 1 play on Tuesday in Danville.
Pitcher Ally Brown led off the inning with a single, one of only two Scott (19-8) hits and was replaced by courtesy runner Claudia Nelson. Katie Markham laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Nelson to second.
A strikeout later, Jennifer Miller bunted and the Tigers (15-16) overthrew first base, allowing Nelson to come around for what proved to be the game winner.
In other softball action:
Riverside 8, Capital 0 - Warriors pitcher Sara Winter allowed just one hit, while striking out five and driving in two runs to lead the way to the Class AAA Region 3, Section 4 win.
Destinae Schmidt added a single and double for Riverside.
The Cougars face Ripley at 6 p.m. today at Riverside.
Hurricane 9, Lincoln County 2 - Courtney Rogers gave up six hits and pitched the full seven innings to lead the Redskins to the win on the road.
Madison Casto and Linzie Reynolds each had three hits in the victory.
Tara Barrett and Megan Tully each had two hits for Lincoln County in the loss.
