Power pitcher Rodriguez promoted to Bradenton
West Virginia Power pitcher Joely Rodriguez has been promoted to the Bradenton Marauders, the Pittsburgh Pirates' advanced-Class A team in Florida, the Power announced Monday.
Rodriguez went 5-5 for the Power in the South Atlantic League's first half, pitching 72.2 innings with a 2.72 earned run average and 57 strikeouts against 20 walks. Infielder Jordan Steranka was called up from Jamestown to take Rodriguez's spot.
The Power promotions might not be over just yet. Website PiratesProspects.com reported that pitcher Orlando Castro and first baseman Stetson Allie will be called up to Bradenton sometime this week as well. Both are in Lakewood, N.J., participating in the SAL All-Star Game. West Virginia returns to action Thursday against the Lakewood BlueClaws at 7:05 p.m. at Appalachian Power Park.
