UNIVERSITY OF CHARLESTON Coach Pat Kirkland said that for years he has seen the talent level in the WVC increase and that is still the case in the MEC with additions such as Urbana with Mendenhall at quarterback.
"It's an exciting time," Kirkland said.
"The one thing I've found since being a part of the West Virginia Conference moving forward into the Mountain East since back in 2000 is just the progression of talent everywhere from coaches to players. Top to bottom it has changed drastically."

SEVERAL OF the coaches made a point of highlighting one, two and sometimes more players to watch from their teams this season, but no coach mentioned more players than Urbana's Dave Taynor.
The Blue Knights' coach made a point of mentioning each of his seniors and explained why.
"I wanted to talk about all of our seniors because I did want to say one thing: this is in prayer and support for one of our other seniors, senior nose guard Caleb Sexton, who was in a major car accident this past weekend."
Taynor said Sexton is still in critical condition and Taynor and members of his staff visited Sexton and his family in the hospital.
"He's part of our family and we give all of our support to their family and hope for his recovery," Taynor said. "I felt compelled to give a little statement in support of him and his family."

THE MOUNTAIN EAST announced it would plant its roots in Bridgeport with the league office several weeks ago, and though the league has secured a office, it is still in the early stages of getting things set up.
"We just began to move into our space this morning," Amos said. "We're beginning to get settled in Bridgeport. Pretty much my office has been wherever I can find a flat space."
