Prep soccer roundup: South Charleston defeats Princeton
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- South Charleston trailed at the half, but rallied for four-second goals in a 4-0 win over Princeton in boys high school soccer action Tuesday in Mercer County.
Will Higgins gave Princeton (1-1-0) a 1-0 halftime lead with an unassisted goal.
The Black Eagles (2-0-0) received goals from Jonah Cosby, Kwesi Wilkerson, Derek Nelson and Chris Brown. Wilkerson and Mitchell Foster added assists for SC.
Winfield 2, Ripley 1 -Steven Taylor and C.T. Douglas scored goals to lead the Generals (1-0) to the win. Hunter Sheldon added an assist for Winfield.
For Ripley (1-1-0), Parker Lively scored the lone goal.
Ravenswood 5, Herbert Hoover 1 - The Red Devils tallied the first three goals on the way to picking up the road win Tuesday.
Brett Strickland had 18 saves in goal for the Huskies (0-1) to keep them in the game.
Sissonville 3, Nitro 0 - The Indians' defense limited the host Wildcats (1-1) to just two shots on goal for the shutout. Dougie Harding had two goals for Sissonville (1-0-1).
In girls soccer action:
Poca 13, Sherman 1 -Harley Hutchins picked up three goals, Gracen Masters two and eight more Dots found the net to lead the way Tuesday night.
Poca improved to 1-2-0.
Sissonville 5, Nitro 0 - Karli Pinkerton scored two goals and added two assists to lead the Indians at home.
Also for Sissonville (3-0-0) Madison Jones chipped in with two goals and an assist, while Mary Schmeck had two assists.
Nitro dropped to 0-1-0.
George Washington 5, Spring Valley 2 - The Patriots scored three unanswered goals in the second half to pull away on the road.
Taylor Ellis had two goals for GW (2-0-0), while Hannah Ellis had a goal and assist.
Kasey Rhodes and Kate Eddy rounded out the Patriots' scoring.
Chase Davis and Canaan Booten had unassisted goals for Spring Valley (1-1-0).
