West Virginia University sophomore Eron Harris was named to the Big 12 men's basketball preseason honorable mention team, which was announced Thursday.
Harris, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard, led the Mountaineers in scoring last season at 9.8 points per game. He played in 31 games and started 17 as a true freshman.
Oklahoma State's Marcus Hunt was named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year. Kansas teammates Tarik Black (Newcomer of the Year) and Andrew Wiggins (Freshman of the Year) also took preseason honors. Wiggins played at Huntington Prep. Smart is the top returning scorer in the Big 12, and is the second Big 12 Player of the Year to return for the next season (Raef LaFrentz, Kansas, 1997-98).
The preseason All-Big 12 team consists of Smart, Wiggins, Baylor's Isaiah Austin, Baylor's Cory Jefferson, Iowa State's Melvin Ejim and Oklahoma State's Markel Brown. Wiggins is the first freshman in Big 12 history to be named to the preseason first team.
Along with WVU's Harris, Kansas teammates Perry Ellis and Joel Embiid, Kansas State's Shane Southwell and Oklahoma State teammates Le'Bryan Nash and Michael Cobbins were also honorable mention selections.
