CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston is reinstating its men's track and cross country teams.
Athletic director Bren Stevens announced the move Wednesday. The teams are eligible to compete immediately on the NCAA Division II level and will compete in the Mountain East Conference starting next fall.
The university will become the 10th conference member to sponsor men's cross country and the seventh to sponsor men's track.
It will bring the number of men's sports at UC to eight, in addition to nine on the women's side.
The university dropped men's track in 2007 and phased out men's cross country after that to increase gender equity in its athletic programs.
