By From staff reports

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Chazzy Thomas, a senior running back for Morgantown High School, was named the Gatorade West Virginia Football Player of the Year on Thursday.

The 5-foot-9, 175-pound Thomas led Class AAA in rushing yards (2,108) and rushing touchdowns (30) this season. He carried the ball 174 times and averaged 12.1 yards per attempt.

Thomas missed two games and was limited in two others because of an ankle injury. Morgantown finished 8-3 and lost to University in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.

Thomas was a first-team all-state selection in 2012.
