Marshall gets another crack at an ACC opponent this bowl season, as the Military Bowl announced Sunday night that the Thundering Herd would face Maryland on Friday, Dec. 27 at 2:30 p.m.
The Herd (9-4) accepted its Military Bowl invitation shortly after its 41-24 loss to Rice in the Conference USA championship game. The Terrapins (7-5) waited until all of the ACC's bowl games were announced Sunday night.
The Terps won five of their first six games, including a 37-0 win over West Virginia. The lone loss in that streak came in a 63-0 shellacking at the hands of Florida State. Since then, Maryland has lost four of six. It does hold an overtime victory over 8-4 Virginia Tech, which beat the Herd in triple overtime.
Marshall was riding a five-game winning streak before falling to the Owls on Saturday. It is the second bowl game in three years for the Herd, which won the 2011 Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl. It's the first bowl game, and first winning season, in the three-year tenure of Maryland Coach Randy Edsall.
