Prep basketball roundup: Winfield earns road win over Oak Hill

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Toby Show poured in 27 points and the Winfield boys basketball team remained unbeaten with a 76-67 victory at Oak Hill on Tuesday night.

Jack Fisher had 18 points and John Bellomy 13 for the Generals (3-0).

For the Red Devils (1-1) Jalen Jones led all scorers with 28 points, including a 9-of-11 performance at the foul line. Josh Jones was the only other Oak Hill player to score in double figures with 15 points.

Poca 70, Mingo Central 53 - Elijah Cuffee scored 19 points while Noah Frampton and Matt Chandler each finished with 13 points to lead Poca (2-0) on the road.

Cam Cottrill added 11 points in the wins for the Dots.

The Miners (0-2) were led by a 15-point performance from Chase Hatfield.

Wheeling Park 72, Preston 54 - Ryan Rainbeau and Phil Bledso each scored 17 to lead Wheeling Park (1-0) to a victory over Preston at West Liberty University.

Luke Saseen added 12 points for the Patriots while Trenton Smith chipped in with 10 points.

The Knights (1-2) were led by a 22-point game from Jimmy Galusky.

In girls action:

St Albans 50, Capital 23 - Haleigh Legg scored 10 points while Lexie Cooper added nine points to lead St Albans (3-1) to a home win against Capital, handing the Cougars their second loss of the season.

Breanna Trops and Kaitlin Propst also chipped in eight points a piece in the win for the Red Dragons.

India Hairston led the way for the Cougars (2-2) with five points.

Parkersburg South 69, University 44 - The top-ranked, defending state champion Patriots (3-0) blew open a close game by outscoring the fifth-ranked Hawks 27-7 in the second period on the way to the road win.

Keya Bartlett hit five three-pointers on the way to a game high 19 points to pace Parkersburg South while Katelyn Byrd added 17 and Carlie Wilson 16.

Mariah Callen led University (4-1) with 13 points.

Hurricane 45, Beckley 43 - Junior Abby Watson hit a pair of free throws with 10 seconds remaining to break a 43-43 tie and then picked off a pass at the other end to seal the home victory for the Redskins (2-1).

Watson finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds while Tanesha Sturdavent also contributed a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds for the Redskins.

Aaliyah Williams paced all scorers with 26 points for the Flying Eagles (1-2).

Nitro 57, Ripley 37 - Junior Savannah Shamblin scored 28 points to lead the undefeated Wildcats (4-0) to the home win.

Fellow junior Tiffany Reavis contributed 15 points and 16 rebounds for Nitro.

Sarah Williams hit four times from beyond the arc and finished with 16 points to pace the Vikings (2-2).
