Girls basketball roundup: Parkersburg rallies to top Hurricane
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Parkersburg trailed by two points entering the fourth quarter, but rallied with the help of a 36-point effort by Brooke Kurucz to pull out a 68-64 home win over Hurricane in girls high school basketball action Thursday evening.
The Big Reds (2-2) went on a 10-2 run in the middle of the fourth quarter to take the lead for good.
Kameron Snyder added 18 points for Parkersburg.
For Hurricane (2-2), Abby Watson scored 28 points, while Hannah Thompson added 12 points.
Sissonville 58, Clay County 40 - Brittany Gould scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Indians (3-0) to the road win.
Madison Jones contributed 17 points, followed by Karli Pinkerton with 14 for Sissonville. Brooke Reed added 13 rebounds and five blocks.
For Clay County (2-2), Isabelle Haverty led the way with 14 points, while McKinzee Barker netted 12.
St. Albans 54, Woodrow Wilson 29 - Breanna Propst led all scorers with 16 points as the Red Dragons (4-1) won in Beckley.
Haleigh Legg contributed 13 points for St. Albans.
For Woodrow (1-4), Aaligha Williams was the top scorer with 10 points.
Nitro 60, Princeton 48 - Savannah Shamblin had 11 of her game-high 26 points in the first quarter as the Wildcats (5-0) took a 13-point lead en route to the home victory over the Tigers (0-4).
Tiffany Reavis had 10 rebounds for the Wildcats.
Kaleigh Barker's 21 points led the way for Princeton.
Buffalo 61, Man 36 - Olivia Dunn scored 19 points to lead the Bison (5-1) on the road. Chelsey Parkins added 14 points and Page Roush added another 10 for Buffalo.
For Man (1-4), Morgan Conn scored 16 points and Hunter Harvey had 10.
Oak Hill 63, Liberty-Raleigh 25 - Alyssa Barron scored 13 points to lead the Red Devils (3-3) at home.
Savannah Keffer and Caelea Teel added 12 points apiece for Oak Hill. For Liberty (0-4), Stacy Williams scored a team-high nine points.
