CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Chuck McGill, sports editor and columnist for the Charleston Daily Mail, has been voted the 2013 West Virginia Sportswriter of the Year by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association, the organization announced Thursday.
It is the second time Mountain State members of the NSSA have voted McGill the state's top sportswriter. He also won in 2011 and has been nominated in four consecutive years.
The NSSA will recognize state and national winners, as well as its Hall of Fame inductees, June 7-9 at the 55th annual NSSA awards weekend in Salisbury, N.C.
McGill, 33, is a Charleston native who joined the Daily Mail staff in 2009 as the beat writer for Marshall University athletics and the West Virginia Power. He was promoted to sports editor in May 2012.His wife, Lauren McGill, is the city editor at the Daily Mail.
