CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia University women's basketball team moved up three spots -- from No. 20 to No. 17 -- in The Associated Press top 25 poll. The Mountaineers have won two straight since a 66-63 setback at Texas on Jan. 25. WVU (19-3, 8-2 Big 12) has won six of seven overall and 19 of 21 games since a season-opening loss to Ohio State. The Mountaineers are percentage points behind Baylor (18-3, 8-1) for the Big 12 lead.
Connecticut stayed No. 1 after cruising to two more victories.
The Huskies routed both Temple and Cincinnati to improve to 23-0 this season. UConn will host SMU and No. 4 Louisville this week with the game against the Cardinals on Sunday a rematch of last season's national championship game.
Notre Dame, Stanford and Duke round out the first five teams. The Irish (21-0) also remain unbeaten after topping both Maryland and Duke on the road in the past week.
South Carolina, Baylor, Tennessee, Penn State and Maryland follow Duke.
Nebraska and Michigan State re-entered the top 25 at No. 22 and 24. Florida State and Iowa State fell out.
