CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Former George Washington High basketball star TyQuane Goard is returning to his home state to continue his college basketball career.
Goard, a 6-foot-7 forward, wrote on his Twitter page that he's transferring to Marshall University. He spent his freshman year at Ohio University. Goard wrote that he must sit out the 2012-13 season per NCAA transfer rules, and will be eligible for 2013-14.
Goard, a Class AAA All-State first-team selection as a senior, helped lead the Patriots to the 2010-11 Class AAA state basketball title, averaging 17.1 points per game. Against Wheeling Park in the title game, he led all scorers with 19 points in George Washington's nail-biting 55-54 win.
He saw limited time coming off the Bobcats' bench, appearing in 29 of their 37 games in 2011-12, averaging 7.2 minutes a game. He recorded 1.7 points and 1.5 rebounds per game.
