CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Erstwhile Marshall University basketball star DeAndre Kane will visit the University of Southern California today, according to CBS Sports college basketball writer Jeff Goodman.
Kane told Goodman he also plans to visit St. Mary's and Pittsburgh. Marshall Coach Tom Herrion was an assistant at Pittsburgh for three seasons (2007-10) before landing the head coaching gig with the Thundering Herd.
Herrion announced Kane's departure from the Marshall program April 23. In a news release, Herrion said: "After meeting with DeAndre, I have decided it is in our program's and his best interest that he seek opportunities elsewhere."
Southern Cal plays in the Pac-12 Conference and went 14-18 overall last season. The Trojans are under the direction of first-year Coach Andy Enfield, who rose to fame last month when he guided No. 15 seed Florida Gulf Coast to the Sweet 16. He was hired by USC on April 1.
Kane, who has one year of eligibility remaining, is eligible immediately as a graduate transfer. He finished his Marshall career ranked No. 15 in school history with 1,496 points and eighth in career assists with 432.
He was eighth in Division I in assists last season with 7.1 per game.
