HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – While the Marshall baseball team missed out on the Conference USA Tournament, two veterans were named to the all-conference first team Tuesday. Junior pitcher Aaron Blair and senior outfielder Issac Ballou earned the honor.
Blair, a 6-foot-5, 220-pound right hander from Las Vegas, Nev., allowed opposing batters to hit just .198 against him this season, the fourth-best average in the conference. He also was seventh in strikeouts (84) and fourth in batters struck out looking (29). He went 5-5 in 13 starts in 2013 with a 2.85 earned run average.
Ballou, a 6-2, 200-pounder, finished eighth in C-USA in batting average (.328), third in on-base percentage (.438) and doubles (17) and tied with three other players for fourth in runs scored (40). The Thundering Herd finished the season at 20-34 and 6-18 in C-USA, ninth out of nine teams. The top eight make the conference tournament.
