Marshall men's basketball forward Elijah Pittman and Charlotte guard Pierria Henry, a South Charleston High graduate, both were named to the 16-man Conference USA list of preseason players to watch. The group was selected by CUSA's men's hoops coaches.
Henry, whose 49ers begin their first season in C-USA this year, was named to the 2013 Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team ranking in the top 10 in the nation in steals per game in each of the last two seasons. The junior also is Charlotte's leading returning scorer at 10.3 points per game last season.
Henry was a two-time all-state selection for South Charleston and was runner up in 2011 Class AAA player of the year voting. Pittman is not just Marshall's leading returning scorer (16.1 points per game), he's also conference's top returning scorer. The senior scored in double figures in all but four games last season and scored at least 20 points in 11 games.
The rest of the list includes: East Carolina senior guard Akeem Richmond, FIU senior forward Tymell Murphy, FAU redshirt senior center Dragan Sekelja, Louisiana Tech junior guard Raheem Appleby, Middle Tennessee senior forward Shawn Jones, North Texas junior guard Jordan Williams, Old Dominion sophomore guard Keenan Palmore, Rice sophomore guard Max Guercy, Southern Mississippi senior guard Neil Watson, Tulane junior forward Tre Drye, Tulsa sophomore guard James Woodard, UAB senior forward Rod Rucker, UTEP swingman senior Julian Washburn and UTSA senior forward Jeromie Hill.
