"I was thinking there was going to be a problem," said Fortunato, through teammate and translator Ashley Ponce.
"Before I hit when Schwind (Jonathan) was up, it looked like something bad with the pitcher. When I hit the homer, he thought there would be a situation."
Trailing by one, the Power plated five runs in the decisive third inning to take a 5-1 lead with the big blast coming from Fortunato. Nine players went to the plate with Stetson Allie delivering a RBI single and Ponce's RBI triple helping the cause as well.
"I wasn't thinking about a home run," Fortunato said. "I just wanted to swing hard, and it turned out to be a homer. I was thinking opposite way but when the pitch was right in the middle, I swung, and ... boom."
Lakewood trimmed the lead to 5-3 with two runs in the fifth inning on a RBI double from Justin Dalles and RBI groundout from Alejandro Villalobos, but the Power quickly responded by getting the pair of runs back in the bottom half.
The Power claimed a 7-3 advantage on a solo home run from left fielder Schwind, and wild pitch that scored Fortunato, who doubled earlier in the inning, leaving him just a triple away from the cycle.
Fortunato was the star of the game for the Power, going 4-for-5, with his third home run of the season along with a double, and two singles, marking the first time this season he has collected four hits in a game.
The Power center fielder had been struggling a bit of late, going just 2-for-12 heading into the series finale against Lakewood, and 1-for-9 in the previous three games against Greensboro. Fortunato's home run was his first since April 14.
"Raul had a great game and got us going," Ryan said. "When he does well, we seem to play well. That shows what type of club this is. It is usually a different guy every night, and today was Raul. When he plays a full nine innings, he's a special player, and one of the top guys on the team."
Fortunato was pleased with his performance because it resulted in a team victory.
"I feel great," Fortunato said. "I'm happy to go 4-for-5 today. I'm just trying to do all I can to help the team. We are playing together and having a good time. We won the series but it's over and I'm thinking about tomorrow (Monday)."
