CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Power game against the Asheville Tourists on Sunday was suspended due to unplayable grounds in the third inning. The game will resume on today at 5:05 p.m. and be played to the full nine innings before a seven-inning version of the regularly scheduled game.
Asheville took a 2-0 lead against spot starter Ryan Hafner in the bottom of the first inning. Francisco Sosa hit a two-run home run on the first pitch of his at bat, plating Jason Stolz for the early edge. West Virginia answered in the top of the second on a home run by Walker Gourley and a run-scoring double by Chris Diaz.
The game was halted due to rain between the top and bottom halves of the third inning. After a short delay, the infield was deemed unplayable and the game was suspended.
West Virginia and Asheville will conclude this four-game set on Monday evening. The Power will be off Tuesday and open their next homestand beginning July 17 against Savannah.
The Power also made a some roster moves on Sunday. Left-handed pitcher Thomas Harlan was promoted to Bradenton and right-handed pitcher Cesar Lopez was called up to West Virginia from Jamestown.
