Girls basketball roundup: Freshman leads Riverside
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Freshman Brittany Wood nearly recorded a triple-double in leading Riverside to a 62-52 victory over host Buffalo in girls basketball action on Thursday night.
Wood scored a game-high 17 points to go along with 10 blocks and eight rebounds for Riverside (5-13), while Heather Burford added 17 points and Sheree Clayborn contributed 15 rebounds.
For Buffalo (9-8), Chelsey Parkins scored a team-high 15 points and Ali Burdette added 13.
University 45, George Washington 37 - Samantha Gaspar had 14 points and Marissa Golden added 12 for the Hawks at the Big Atlantic Classic.
Kelli Jo Harrison had 12 points to lead the Patriots (9-7) in their second consecutive loss.
Cross Lanes Christian 65, Ohio Valley Christian 43 - Freshman Courtney Kendrick scored 30 points, grabbed eight rebounds and collected seven steals to lead the Warriors (16-5) on the road.
Laura Jones added 11 points for Cross Lanes.
For Ohio Valley Christian, Madison Crank led the way with 17 points.
Roane County 57, Calhoun County 21 - The Raiders took an 18-0 first-quarter lead and the Red Devils (1-18) failed to score until three minutes to score in the first half at Spencer.
Britney Henson had 10 points and 22 rebounds for Roane County (9-10), while Becky Frye had seven steals and five assists for the hosts.
Teays Valley Christian 47, Sherman 39 - Krista Larue had a huge game in leading Lions (7-10) to the home win, scoring 22 points and grabbing eight rebounds.
