In other area games tonight:
Class AAA No. 3 Cabell Midland (2-0) at Riverside (1-1) - The Warriors have shown the ability to score - they average 38.5 points per game - but have yet to slow opponents much. They'll face a test on both sides of the ball in the Knights, who are allowing just 11.5 points and 254.5 total yards per game.
Midland senior fullback Lowell Farley leads the team with 316 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He is 17 yards shy of Midland's all-time career rushing record.
Class AAA No. 4 George Washington (1-1) at St. Albans (0-2) - GW senior running back Ryan Switzer, the 2011 Kennedy Award winner, will return to action after missing most of the Patriots' first two games with a concussion sustained early in their opening game.
A date with St. Albans could be the best medicine for GW. The Patriots are averaging less than 230 yards of offense per game and struggled to pick up first downs in the second half of their 21-14 loss to Ashland (Ky.) Paul Blazer last week.
Winfield (1-1) at Class AAA No. 6 Huntington (2-0) - The Generals face a Huntington team that is coming off a 17-0 shutout of previously ranked Spring Valley. Winfield got its first win under Coach Craig Snyder last week at Ripley by a 20-14 score.
Winfield senior running back Seth Lewis has 233 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 52 carries.
The Highlanders had four backs run for more than 30 yards in their win over Spring Valley, led by Donte Hendricks' 63 yards.
Class AAA No. 8 South Charleston (1-1) at Spring Valley (0-2) - See story, Page 1B.
Class AAA No. 10 Hurricane (2-0) at Beckley (2-0) - Hurricane has rolled up gaudy offensive numbers in wins over Winfield and Nitro, but will face a sizeable defensive front for the first time this season tonight. Running back Zach Pate has a Kanawha Valley-high 323 rushing yards and four touchdowns while junior quarterback Austin Hensley has completed 32 of 60 passes for 573 yards.
Beckley has wins over Princeton (0-2) and Greenbrier East (0-2).
Herbert Hoover (0-2) at Class AA No. 1 Wayne (1-0) - Hoover battled Chapmanville on the road before the Tigers pulled away in the second half last week. Tonight, the Huskies travel to face the defending Class AA state champions, who blasted Chesapeake, Ohio, 58-12, a week ago.
Wayne senior running back Brandon Spurlock had 88 yards rushing on nine carries and returned a fumble 72 yards for a touchdown last week while playing only in the first half.
Nitro (0-2) at Ripley (0-2) - The Wildcats match up better against Ripley than against Poca or Hurricane, the teams that handed Nitro losses in their first two games. The Vikings average fewer than 100 rushing yards per game and rely more on a passing attack that is averages less than 200 yards per outing.
Other area games include Logan (2-0) at Lincoln County (0-2), Chapmanville (1-1) at Scott (2-0), Class AA No. 7 Ravenswood (1-0) at Roane County (1-1), Clay County (0-2) at Ritchie County (1-1), Point Pleasant (2-0) at Lewis County (1-1), Valley (1-0) at Van (1-1) and Wyoming East (1-1) at Sherman (0-2).
Class AAA No. 7 Capital (2-0) and Class AA No. 8 Sissonville (2-0) are idle.
