CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Class AA showdown of the regular season - to date - comes to the coalfields of Boone County tonight.
Scott (6-0), the top-rated team in the Secondary School Activities Commission Class AA playoff rankings, hosts defending state champion Wayne (5-0) at 7:30 p.m. in Madison.
The Pioneers, ranked No. 1 in the Daily Mail Poll, have won a state-best 14 consecutive games, and come in sporting a state-leading scoring average of 56.6 points per game while being led by senior running back and Kennedy Award candidate Brandon Spurlock.
While barely playing in the second half of any game this season, Spurlock has carried the ball 43 times for 641 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has averaged 14.9 yards per carry.
Scott is led by a triumvirate of ball-carriers that includes the area's leading small-school rusher Robert Bias, who has gained 807 yards on 111 carries. Bias has scored three times this season. Cameron Loftus has 493 rushing yards and eight touchdowns while Tristan Crone has been Scott's short-yardage specialist. Crone has scored nine times while carrying for 349 yards on 54 attempts.
In the teams' last meeting, Scott led Wayne 20-18 after three quarters at Pioneer Field in Wayne.
Spurlock and company outscored the Skyhawks 32-0 in the fourth quarter, however, as part of a nine-game, season-ending win streak that culminated with the team's second state championship in six seasons.

Winfield (2-4) at Class AAA No. 1 Cabell Midland (6-0) - Former Winfield running back David Gaydosz had six touchdowns for Midland last week in the top-ranked Knights' 70-34 win over Beckley. With 868 rushing yards this season, he still trails Midland fullback Lowell Farley for the team lead. Farley has 893 yards and nine touchdowns on 103 carries.
