High school basketball: Estep hits buzzer-beating 3-pointer to lead Hurricane
Alex Estep hit a 3-pointer with 1 second remaining in the fourth quarter to lead Hurricane to a 59-56 home victory over Princeton on Thursday night in a meeting between Mountain State Athletic Conference members.
Ryan Meadows had a game-high 18 points for the Tigers (7-2), who entered the fourth quarter with a 45-44 lead. Hunter Walters added 13 points.
For the Redskins (7-2), Garrett Defries had a team-high 14 points, while Henry Sorsaia chipped in 13 points and Estep added 10.
St. Albans 43, Ripley 39 - The Red Dragons (4-4) trailed by six at the half, but rallied for the home win.
Taylor Clark led St. Albans with 10 points.
For Ripley, Kade Harrison led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Chuck Sleboda's 14.
Capital 73, Nitro 71 OT - Carrington Morris scored 23 points to lead the Cougars in overtime on the road.
Austin Coleman added 20 points for Capital, including a game-tying 3-pointer near the end of regulation to force the extra period.
For Nitro (5-4), Angelo Sirianni led all scorers with 28 points, while Trevon Taylor added 21 points and Ethan Clark 12.
Riverside 60, Cabell Midland 43 - Nick Light scored 11 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Warriors (5-5) on the road.
Marcus Reed contributed 14 points for Riverside, while Tamar Lawson chipped in with 11.
For Cabell Midland (3-7), Dakota Leonard had 10 points.
South Charleston 74, Parkersburg 33 -The Black Eagles (8-1) jumped to a 22-6 first quarter lead and cruised to the easy home win.
A.D. Cunningham netted 16 points for South Charleston, while Neal Brown added 12.
Parkersburg was led by Ben Umpleby and Trevor Britton with eight points apiece.
In girls basketball action:
Tolsia 43, Poca 37 - Krista Maynard scored 17 points to help the Rebels (8-2) slip past the Dots (4-7).
Savannah Winnett added 10 points for Tolsia, while Paula Ord led Poca with 15 points.
Parkersburg Catholic 49, Charleston Catholic 31 - Leah Hughes's 18 points led the Crusaders (7-4) at home.
Maddie Roedersheimer added 11 points and Alex Schaffer nine rebounds for Parkersburg.
For the Irish (4-6), Samantha Fletcher netted 13 points.
