Girls basketball: Villanueva, South Charleston girls top Hurricane

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- South Charleston jumped to a 17-9 first quarter lead and never looked back en route to a 69-46 win over visiting Hurricane in girls high school basketball play Thursday night.

Lina Villanueva scored a game-high 28 points to lead the Black Eagles (8-6), while Taliah Cashwell contributed 13.

For Hurricane (5-7), Abby Watson led the way with 21 points, while Taneisha Sturdevant pulled down 21 rebounds.

Spring Valley 57, St. Albans 36 - Maddie Morris scored a game-high 15 points to lead the Timberwolves (9-3) to the road win.

Sarah Kelly added 12 points for Spring Valley.

For St. Albans (5-7), Addison Oliver scored 12 points.
