Girls basketball roundup: Harrison posts double-double to lead Patriots

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Junior guard Kelli Jo Harrison registered a double-double in leading the George Washington girls basketball team to a 59-48 win over Preston at the Big Atlantic Classic in Beckley on Thursday.

Harrison scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, while Rachel Ward led the Patriots (12-4) with 16 points.

For Preston (9-3), Mary Braham led the way with 16 points, followed by Alexis Schoolcraft and Jesse Seather with 11 points apiece.

Elk Valley Christian 57, Sherman 43 - Hannah Williams scored 17 points to lead the Eagles at home.

Chelsea Burdette added 15 points for Elk Valley, while Katie Burdette contributed 12.

For Sherman (7-10), Sarah Massey netted 21 points, followed by Jordan Lewis with 14.

Buffalo 39, Teays Valley Christian 32 - The Bison (11-4) built a 21-6 halftime lead and held on for the tough road win.

Chelsey Parkins paced Buffalo with 18 poinWood has 21 points, 14 boards, eight blocks to lead Riverside to wints, while Tiffani Bailey added 13.

For the Lions (7-9), Olivia Hill netted 12 points.

Clay County 62, Poca 44 - The Panthers (14-3) trailed by one at the half, but pulled away in the second half for the easy road win.

Brittany Gould's 29 points led Clay, while Isabelle Haverty contributed 10 points.

For Poca (4-12), Harley Hutchins registered a team-high 15 points.

Cabell Midland 61, Hurricane 49 - Sierra Jordan scored 16 points to lead the Knights (11-5) on the road.

Emily Harden added 12 points for Midland.

For Hurricane (5-13), Abby Watson scored 19 points, followed by Audrey Barber with 12.

Riverside 34, Point Pleasant 29 - The Warriors won for the third time in their last four games with the close home win.

Brittany Wood led Riverside (6-13) with 21 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocks, while Lamontica Burger added nine rebounds.

For Point Pleasant (6-12), Andrea Porter had 18 points.

South Charleston 48, Nitro 31 - Alliyah Webb's 11 points helped lead the Black Eagles (9-9) at home.

For Nitro (8-9), Savannah Shamblin scored a game-high 13 points.

In boys action:

Webster County 56, Braxton County 38 - In a rare early tipoff in Upper Glade, the Highlanders (11-2) got 21 points from All-State guard Brett Morris and cruised to an easy win over the visiting Eagles (3-12).

The game began at 6 p.m. as a result of Braxton County not having school Thursday and the concern of inclement weather later in the evening.

Morris, who also added team highs with eight assists and five steals, was helped out by teammate Dalton Davis, who added 10 points. Braxton was led by McKinley Moore's 12 points, which came on four 3-point field goals.
